New 2022 Honda Odyssey Price, Changes, Redesign – Although the rise of SUVs and crossovers in America has dramatically impacted sedan and hatchback sales worldwide, we often forget that minivans, too, are suffering. The Dodge Grand Caravan, a dominant force during the nineties, has been a weak imitation of its former self. This left the door open for the Honda Odyssey or Chrysler’s Pacifica. Are these minivans still relevant today?
The New 2022 Honda Odyssey is an honest car. It knows its limits and doesn’t pretend it’s anything else. Honda has been ahead of the rest by providing a series of updates to its minivan. The 2022 model year was the first to be updated in July 2022. The 2022 model-year update was followed in January 2022 by the introduction of the 2022 model years.
Although the mechanics are the same, the 3.5-liter V6 engine under the hood still produces 280 horsepower and 262lb-ft torque. However, a few modifications have been made to the spec sheet. Honda wants to continue dominating this segment and has equipped the Odyssey with the necessary tools to compete against the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica.
New 2022 Honda Odyssey Redesign
In our view, the Dodge Grand Caravan was made obsolete by its manufacturer. You can only do so much with a box. Honda disproves that view and the Odyssey is at most interesting to look at. The New 2022 Honda Odyssey upgrades include:
- A redesigned grille and front bumper.
- New headlight layouts.
- New black trim below the rear window.
The new blackout grille with chrome strip and front ends is a little more aggressive. The side profile is also attractive. The base models come with 18-inch wheels, and the top-end models have 19-inch alloys, which fill the arches very nicely. All models include LED daytime running lights and LED headlights. The EX comes with LED fog lamps. From the EX upward, power sliding doors are standard. The EX-L trim upwards has a one-touch power moonroof as well as a power tailgate.
Even though the New 2022 Honda Odyssey cabin has no sense of occasion, it is beautiful. The digital instrument cluster looks great, and the ambient lighting around its center console is a nice touch. Honda’s primary focus is on space and durability. It doesn’t matter if a model is made of leather or cloth.
It feels like it will last for a lifetime. The car’s interior plastics are of high quality, and it is well-bolted together. The potential for rattles in a vehicle with so much seating is high. Honda has high standards. We didn’t hear any rattles.
The LX base model is seven-seater. All other models have eight seats. If you plan on traveling with large groups, an eight-seat Honda Odyssey is the best choice. The EX comes standard with heated front seats. The EX has plenty of headroom and legroom throughout. Even adults can be comfortably seated in the third row.
LX and EX trims have 40.7/39.5/38.3 inches of headroom in the front/middle/rear. Due to the fitting of a moonroof, this drops to 38.7/39.2/38.3 in the upper edges. All models have a legroom rating of 40.9/40.9/38.1 inches.
New 2022 Honda Odyssey Engine
The lack of engine options is the first flaw in the New 2022 Honda Odyssey armor. The 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine from Honda is an absolute gem, producing 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft torque. The power of this minivan is never lacking, but it’s not a lack of it.
Honda has a long history of building the most potent non-turbo engines in the business. Even with eight passengers, it has enough capacity to drive on the highway and in cities. It also has a ten-speed gearbox that is spot on. The gearbox’s wide ratios enable it to extract the maximum power from the engine regardless of the situation. It settles down well at higher speeds and is quite efficient.
We are not happy with the lack of hybrid powertrains. The Sienna and Pacifica both have hybrid options available in their respective ranges. Hybrids can be used in inner-city driving, and minivans spend most of their time doing this, so it makes perfect sense to explore hybrid options. Honda has more hybrid experience than most other companies, so why not apply this to the car it makes for suburban driving?
